Xiaomi has long followed a familiar pattern: it first unveils the Redmi K series in China, then rebrands those phones under the Poco F lineup for global markets. That tradition continues this year. The upcoming Poco F8 Pro and Poco F8 Ultra are expected to be rebranded versions of the Redmi K90 and K90 Pro Max, respectively.
However, a new leak suggests that the global Poco F8 models will feature smaller batteries compared to their Chinese counterparts.
Both Poco and Redmi operate under Xiaomi’s umbrella, sharing design and hardware DNA. The Redmi K90 Pro Max, already released in China, stands out as one of the first smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. But today’s focus is on battery specs — and they paint an interesting picture.
The Redmi K90 Pro Max comes equipped with a massive 7,560mAh battery, easily delivering two days of normal use. Devices sold in China typically face fewer certification hurdles, but when it comes to global markets, regulations and design constraints can lead to differences in specs.
According to information discovered in HyperOS source code by reliable X (Twitter) leaker Kacper Skrzypek, the upcoming Poco F8 phones will indeed ship with smaller battery capacities than their Redmi K90 counterparts.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Redmi K90 Pro: 7,100mAh → Poco F8 Pro: 6,210mAh
- Redmi K90 Pro Max: 7,560mAh → Poco F8 Ultra: 6,500mAh
That’s a noticeable downgrade, leaving the global models at a disadvantage — at least on paper. It’s still unclear whether the Poco variants will use silicon-carbon (Si/C) cells, which could offset the difference in capacity.
Hardware-wise, the Poco F8 lineup should mirror the Redmi K90 series apart from the battery. Expect the F8 Pro to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, while the F8 Ultra will run on the more advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Both will launch with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.
Display-wise, the F8 Pro may feature a 6.59-inch OLED panel, while the F8 Ultra is expected to sport a large 6.9-inch OLED display with 2K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
For now, Xiaomi hasn’t officially teased the Poco F8 series, so these details remain speculative. We’ll keep you posted as more information surfaces closer to launch — stay tuned for updates.
